Didn’t get your fix of festival life this summer? I might have a great last-minute option for you. This Thursday (the 15th) through Sunday is the “Somnium Summer Camp 2016” which is billed as “an Electronic Music and Camping Festival”. It’s in Duvall, so it’s a pretty easy jaunt.
One of the things that is catching my attention is that it’s not the usual festival lineup. Instead it’s a lot of PNW flavor, including names like Aaron Jackson, AudiOh and BenTraxx. There’s also some out-of-town flavor too, like Chicago’s SØLSTIS. Bentraxx is actually who tipped me off to this event (I’m sure he’ll throw down his track “Jacked Up” that we’ve been playing in the mixshows on C89.5).
To me, it sounds like the kind of festival where you can learn about your new favorite electronic music artist before they start celebrity dating and become busy with modeling contracts and product endorsements. Music discovery is what festivals should be about, and this might be the ticket.
The camping part is “pack in, pack out“. Their goal is to keep the camping grounds better than it was found. Camping will be next to your car. They recommend bringing alternative energy devices. I’m a fan of the solar generators out and about (like Goal Zero–no, they didn’t sponsor this!).
I’m going to try to slip in to check it out, but if you do end up going, let me know how your experience was!
