It’s normal to sometimes feel sad, blue or less motivated to do the things we usually enjoy. People of any age may struggle with these feelings, and if unchecked depression can get in the way of one’s ability to successfully take part in school, work, family and social activities. By the age of 18, 1 in 5 youth have had a depressive episode and over half have had some depressive symptoms. Among LGBTQ+ youth the rate is even higher. Fortunately, there are treatments that work and help is within reach. Know the signs of depression and act early.
