Tax-Free IRA Gifts

Making a gift to C89.5 from your IRA is a tax-wise way to enrich the lives of family, friends, and others in your community.

If you are 70½ or older, the IRA Charitable Rollover allows you to make a tax-free qualified charitable distribution (QCD) directly from your IRA.

You can make a charitable gift of up to $100,000 directly from your IRA every year while excluding the amount of that gift from your adjusted gross income (AGI). If you file a joint return, each spouse can exclude up to $100,000 for a maximum of $200,000 each year.

Advantages to you:

  • You can use an often-overlooked asset to make a gift to C89.5.
  • The IRA Charitable Rollover permits you to make donations directly to C89.5 from your IRA without counting the distribution as part of your AGI and, consequently, without paying taxes on it.
  • The distribution counts towards your minimum required distribution (RMD) for the year.

You can enjoy these special tax savings so long as:

  • The distribution is made from either your Traditional or Roth IRA
  • The distribution is made to a qualified charitable organization, like C89.5
  • The distribution is made directly by your plan administrator to C89.5

A gift made from your IRA will never count as income but makes a big difference to C89.5!

How to Give

Contact your plan administrator and request that a qualified charitable distribution be made directly to C89.5 / KNHC Public Radio Association (Federal Tax ID: 20-5402402).

It’s important to know that if you receive the distribution first and then donate the proceeds, the gift will not count as a qualified charitable distribution. We encourage you to consult with your advisors to fully understand the legal and financial impact of your charitable gift.
